STRION LASER Refrigerant Direct Cooling Handheld Welding System Enables Over 2X Production Capacity Increase at Leading Steel Formwork Manufacturer
STRION LASER today announced the successful large-scale deployment of its MASTER X60 and LITE S40 handheld laser welding machines at Zhongnan Shenjian Group, a globally recognized steel formwork manufacturer serving construction projects in more than 60 countries and regions worldwide.
Following integration into the company’s core production lines, the welding systems helped increase monthly production capacity by more than 2X while improving operational stability, weld consistency, and overall equipment efficiency (OEE) under high-duty-cycle manufacturing conditions.
Industrial Challenge: Scaling Production Under Continuous Load Conditions
As global demand for steel formwork systems continues to grow, manufacturers face increasing pressure to maintain welding consistency, structural integrity, and uninterrupted production throughput.
Prior to system upgrade, Zhongnan Shenjian Group reported operational limitations associated with conventional air-cooled and water-cooled handheld welding systems, particularly under high ambient temperatures and extended duty cycles.
These limitations included thermal instability during prolonged operation, frequent maintenance interruptions, and unplanned production downtime, all of which contributed to reduced line efficiency and increased rework rates.
Engineering Solution: Refrigerant Direct Cooling Architecture
To address these challenges, STRION LASER developed a refrigerant direct cooling handheld welding platform designed specifically for high-duty-cycle industrial environments.
The system integrates a closed-loop refrigerant thermal management architecture with dual-loop heat exchange control, enabling stable thermal regulation of critical optical and power delivery components during continuous operation.
Unlike conventional cooling methods, the refrigerant-based system is engineered to maintain consistent thermal equilibrium under long-duration welding cycles, supporting stable output performance across extended production shifts.
The platform is designed for continuous operation in ambient environments ranging from -30°C to 60°C, supporting 24/7 industrial duty cycles.
Large-Scale Deployment in Steel Formwork Manufacturing
Zhongnan Shenjian Group has deployed approximately 50 STRION LASER handheld welding units across its steel formwork production facility, integrating the systems into a continuous manufacturing workflow.
The deployment has enabled a transition from intermittent welding operations to a high-utilization, continuous production model, significantly improving workflow consistency and production stability.
According to internal production data, monthly output increased from approximately 9,000 square meters to nearly 30,000 square meters following full system integration.

Operational Performance and Field Feedback
Production personnel reported substantial improvements in operational continuity and system reliability under high-intensity usage conditions.
Mr. Deng, Procurement Manager at Zhongnan Shenjian Group, commented:
“Previously, equipment stability under continuous operation was a major challenge. Frequent shutdowns and maintenance interruptions directly impacted production schedules. After adopting STRION LASER systems, the production line achieved a significantly more stable and predictable operating state.”
Frontline operators also confirmed improved usability under continuous shifts, noting consistent system availability across day and night production cycles.

Reliability, Maintenance, and Lifecycle Efficiency
The STRION LASER’s refrigerant direct cooling architecture is designed with a maintenance-minimized operational framework, reducing dependence on frequent servicing cycles associated with traditional thermal management systems.
Key benefits observed in field deployment include:
- Improved system uptime under continuous production conditions
- Reduced frequency of thermal system maintenance interventions
- Lower unplanned downtime across production shifts
- Enhanced lifecycle operational efficiency and cost optimization
These improvements contribute to reduced total cost of ownership (TCO) in high-volume manufacturing environments.

Strategic Impact on Industrial Manufacturing
The adoption of STRION LASER handheld welding technology reflects a broader industry shift toward high-efficiency, continuous-duty laser welding systems in structural steel fabrication.
By improving thermal stability, reducing downtime, and increasing production throughput, refrigerant direct cooling laser systems are emerging as a critical enabling technology for next-generation heavy manufacturing operations.
